oh my goodness! i diddnt know that. yes i think its cruel to. i would imagine it would freak out the horse. he would be wondering why can he move his legs.

Ok, these take some understanding but think of this:
You are out in the wilderness trekking and camping, just you and your horse, how can you let him eat as you are riding over eight hours each day for a month?? You don’t want your horse to run away but you need him to be able to graze and walk around a little. There are other, equally unique situations where these could be a valuable tool too.
The answer is these hobbles.
You have to train your horse very carefully, in the right environment like a sand school or some place very soft.
Anyway, you shouldn’t reject something of value just because you don’t understand it’s purpose, but good for you as you asked a valuable question
