Safety Horse Sheet

Safety Horse Sheet
Hi Viz gear?

I live in the countryside, but to get to any decent hacking routes I inevitably have to go on the road. Not any main roads, but roads with cars and vehicles on none the less.
I hack out practically everyday (because that’s what I enjoy most) and when I go out, I wear a fluorescent yellow hat band, tabbard and leg bands, and sometimes gloves and an arm band. My horse wears yellow leg bands and a tail band, and I’m thinking about getting her a yellow martingale and excercise sheet for the winter.
My question is, does any body else hack out dressed as a walking road safety campaign, or an advert for V-Bandz?! Because when I drive and see riders with and without hi-viz gear on, I really see how much difference it makes. Better to look like an idiot and be safe I say!
I’ve also discovered that it helps dog owners see me just those few seconds earlier, so that they can put their dog on the lead if they need to.

good for you-when i was training i often had over 20 horses on the road at one time.i soon learnt that not all motorists are nice people,so i had a simple method of ensuring they kept their distance.i had the lead and rear riders carry a 3foot long stick ,string attached about 3 foot long, this was attached to a brick that dangled into the road.this ensured i go the space i needed.over 20 years of this method only resulted in 2 court cases, both brought by idiot drivers and both lost by them.safety is paramount and the more high viz.gear you can wear the better.i do not recommend you try my method as it is really for pro.people.your doing all you can.well done.the moron health and safety people who are recommending that horses go in single file on the roads really dont have a clue what they are on about and should be tried for incompetence.
