BET Television question?
I’m just curious . A lot of blacks complain that mainstream t.v. does not have enough colored actors/actresses and they are under represented . And when they are they seem to get stereotyped in a negative image . But BET does not help the problem by putting on nothing but gangster rap and other such programs all day and night . If they have their own station to represent themselves, isn’t it in their best interest to set an example? And I don’t want to hear about the white man owning the station . There is no way that they would be denied to put on anything they want otherwise they would have hell to pay. Are we so politically correct that we cannot acknowledge that what they play is what a large majority of what blacks like and they are just following the money trail ? If the majority wanted Cosby Show or reruns of that Erkle kid then thats what they would have. But the homies and gold chains and flash cash with girls with booties in the camera apparently is what sells . Am I wrong
You are wrong. And by the way. using the word “colored” when referring to black people is no longer proper.
What you see on BET is not representative of most black people. I personally am offended by what is shown. And what we see there was that way long before the station was sold to the man.
Quite honestly, the dollars that roll in to the black performers are predominantly white dollars, so if any one should be hella mad, it is the white mothers and fathers who were raised in a racist era, and now their children are gravitating to what many of them frown on and whisper about. So when you consider why some of us have chosen this road… it’s because you have made all of this possible. Ain’t American great!!! Everyone can get a piece of the pie.
